Stagedoor English Setters

About Us

My goal is to breed quality English Setters true to type, temperament and soundness.
I have a small and careful breeding program, constantly building up from my foundation.
I only keep the best from litters and screen them for health clearances.
I am proud to announce that Stagedoor English Setters has won the
Best AKC Breeder of the Year, 2008!

Our History

I got my first purebred dog when I was 14 years old.  I had read the novel 'Big Red' and had my heart set on an Irish Setter.  I got my Irish puppy at 6 weeks of age.  Gretchen (my family was of German decent) was a beautiful and intelligent dog that I loved with all of my heart.  We had a special bond.  After graduating from the veterinary technician program at the University of Cincinnati, I was working at a veterinary hospital in Cincinnati.  A client came in with her English Setter showdogs.
Mary Schmitt of Abbyroad ES had beautiful dogs and I was smitten with the breed.  She had a litter and I took a mismarked tri colored male puppy and named him Daniel Boone of Abbyroad CD. Mary mentored me, took me to dog shows and taught me to groom.  My second English Setter also came from Mary Schmitt.  My husband arranged for me to get pick bitch puppy from a breeding I was very excited about.

Jazz & Cate

My little tricolored girl arrived and was named Stagedoor Star of Abbyroad.  Cate earned her Championship, a CD title and passed OFA. She went on to win Groups as well as to win Best of Breed at the 1986 ESAA National Specialty in Washington DC. She was my foundation bitch.  While I only got one litter from Cate, from that I kept an open marked orange bitch. She became Ch Stagedoor Jazz CD, who was a good producer.  7 generations later, Stagedoor has produced over 50 Champions, multiple Best in Show, Best in Specialty, Group Winning and Group Placing Dogs.
The most noteable are:
Ch Stagedoor Star of Abbyroad CD- group winner, BOB 1986 ESAA National
Am/Can Ch Stagedoor Penny Lane- multiple BIS & top winning bitch 1992
Ch Stagedoor 'N Mijeans Prima (co owned with Lyndell Ackerman)- multiple Group winner, top winning bitch 2001
